Charles Sturt (City) Council approves the demolition of the historic Caretakers Cottage on Torrens Road.

The building is the last remaining building on the former Cheltenham Park Racecourse land.

Council’s Report provided:

“The 2013/14 Budget provided $400,000 for ‘Cheltenham Racecourse Cottage-Multi Use Upgrade’.

Council approved a WIP that provided for that (unspent) $400,000 to be reallocated to a new project in 2014/15 for refurbishment of a building at the Brocas, focused on youth activities.”

CPRA have written to both Premier Jay Weatherill, Member for Cheltenham and Mark Butler MP, Federal Member for Port Adelaide to advocate for a decision deferral until such time as interested Council Elected members and Officers meet with a delegation from CPRA and others that have an interest, to consider restoration of moneys and potential uses of a restored caretakers house in the new Reserve including the children’s playground.
